[suse-oracle] Oracle 10g Installation (startup) problem

Andreas Kyek

I just installed Oracle 10g (hopefully successful) on my Linux machine
(SuSE 9.0, Kernel 2.6.7, 512MB Ram).

The software installation went fine and after reconfiguration of my
local firewall I can use sqlplus etc. to connect to other database
instances available here.

But I'm in trouble in getting a local DB-Instance installed.

I start dbca, walk through the dialogs (standard db, standard sizing;
it shall be a 10g demo-db for my personal use) up to the last window
"Datenbank erstellen" (=create database). When it then tries to start
the creation process it directly finishes with "ORA-27125: unable to
create shared memory segment".

That happens always; even after a boot where dbca is the first
X-Windows programm which starts.

The Kernel Parameters are (AFAIK) set properly (following
http://www.puschitz.com/ for example) and according to another thread

So what else can be the problem: Do I need more memory to start up an
initial instance?

Any hints?
